February 18 Windy...Well, I guess that's an understatement. We've had a severe wind storm that ripped through the area. The winds were clocked at 60+ MPH! We lost power a couple of times Thursday night, and were without electric for the entire day on Friday. It came back sometime about 8:00 AM on Saturday. Those of you that may have had an e-mail bounce can blame it on the storm...
We didn't have any serious damage - we did loose a small, but very pretty tree in our front yard. That and a handful of shingles from the roof (we're hoping it didn't lose any integrity...) were the only damage. We give God thanks for that!
Between that and the extreme cold temperatures we've been having (lows in the teens) things have been a bit rough on the commute. Friday was nice - I took Jennifer along as a "HOV Lane Dummy" and she hung out with me all day at work. We took the Jeep because of the winds - and we were glad we did! Battling those winds in the Jeep were bad enough - I didn't want to think about taking them on with the bike.
Jenny and I took a bit of a ride today - only about 40 miles or so, but we had a nice time. The weather had warmed up a bit and the winds are dying out quite nicely. It was good to get out in the sun shine and see some blue sky. In fact, as I walked out my front door and looked into the immaculate blue sky, I saw a Bald Eagle flying lazy circles - looking for a snack, no doubt...
Speaking of snacks - think I'll go find one myself...
Stay tuned - more to come... February 14 Never believe the weatherman...Well - doom and gloom predictions of snow in the northern part of the area turned into another false alarm today, but caused me to take the jeep again instead of the bike. An even 2 hours to get to the office this morning...
The roads were DRY the entire way - although it was a bit chilly. The cold this morning is nothing like what is predicted for the next few days - lows in the twenties and highs only in the forties. Brrr... That's gonna make for some cold commutes.
All-in-all, I guess I'm still happy I took the jeep...ask me again on the way home - when I'm on the parking lot they call a freeway...
Stay tuned - more to come... February 05 And the Steelers win!Well, I can only imagine how Pittsburgh is tonight...It's been quite a few years since I was in a city that supported their team like Pittsburgh does. Seattle hasn't shown much support (at least that I have seen) for the Seahawks at all.
As I recall, the last time that Pittsburgh made it to the Super Bowl (albeit to lose to Dallas), Steeler Spirit was EVERYWHERE! It seemed that nearly every car was sporting a flag or bumper sticker or SOMETHING! I haven't seen more than a dozen "12th Man" flags and nearly no "Seahawks" signs / flags / etc. Granted - I've seen a lot of jersies and other clothes (hats, shirts, etc), but it just doesn't feel the same.
I said in my last post that I didn't really care who won - and I was glad to see that it was a great game (I watched in on the DVR after church... It's great to get through the whole game in about an hour!) - but I was secretly cheering for Pittsburgh. I know how that town loves that team - and I just don't feel the same love from Seattle...
Oh - and the commercials were lame... :-(
Stay tuned - more to come... |
