    Recalls...

So - I have put a total of 25,000 miles on my bike since I bought it a year ago.  Since the day I picked it up, it always had a bit of a smell of gasoline to it, but I just assumed it was just from the carbs or something.  Then I get a recall notice from Suzuki - on the fuel tank.

So - I start checking around on the internet - it seems that the vast majority of folks just need a shim kit installed - that the tanks haven't actually failed.  Some dealers are taking up to three weeks to get the work done - and I don't want to be out of the saddle that long (along with the increased commute costs).

I inspect my bike and sure enough, there's a leak.  It seems the top seal (the tank is actually under the seat and comprised of two pieces of plastic "welded" together) is bad and it allows a little fuel to leak... This is exactly what the recall is to correct.

So - I called Hinshaw's motorcycle store where I've been frequenting for things like tire mountings and the like... They won't do anything except take the bike and hold it until the part comes in.  They won't pre-order and offered no type of help... (I even offered to pay for the part in advance!).

Next I call Tacoma Motor Sports - a store I hadn't worked with before.  Not only do they say "sure we can inspect your bike and let you take it back - just sign something saying you know what you're doing" but they tell me to bring the bike in TODAY and they will formally inspect it and get the part on order!

Needless to say, I now have a new tank on order - and a new dealership to work with...

Stay tuned - more to come...

Okay, so it's been a while...

So I haven't posted any updates for quite some time - more on that in a later post (hopefully in a week or so).  Out biggest news here is that we purchased some much needed upgraded computer equipment.  Dell was having some phenomenal rebates so we bought Rebecca a laptop for College.  It is a top-of-the-line "Core Duo" processor with upgraded video.

We had originally thought of just buying her something "to get her by" for the first year or two, but for "A few dollars more" we were able to get her really great laptop... I almost kept it for myself!

I bought myself a new desktop and rolled my old one down to Jen.  She is happy (since I've added a new DVD ROM to it so she can play "The Sims") and my new one seems to be very good so far.  Mine isn't dual core or 64 bit, but it is a fast Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading.

Both machines came pre-installed with Windows XP Media Center edition, which I'm not terribly impressed wtih, truth be told... I am debating about just installing Windows XP Proffesional on them... I don't know yet.

Anyway - as always, we're doing well and hanging in there.  Drop a comment if you have a sec.

Stay tuned - more to come...
